Takashi Miike (*1960)

Takashi Miike is at the forefront of the new generation of Japanese shock artists. He is a taboo-breaking, often audacious filmmaker. He started his career as a director of action movies (mostly Yakuza, Chinese Mafia stuff) for the video market. In fact, most of his films are either action or horror movies, or even both combined. His work ranges from incomprehensible trash (FUDOH) to artful psycho horror (AUDITION), and is mostly a matter of taste. Only recently, he has begun cowriting some of his films. Miike is an incredibly busy director, he usually makes two or more movies per year.
