Two gentlemen gangsters in 1930s Marseille work their way up in the hierarchy of the underworld and go through all kinds of troubles together. Static, much too slowly paced film that resembles a (shallow) drama more than an actioner. Delon's low-key performance doesn't help. His teaming with Belmondo is the only reason to watch this one. Produced by Delon. Script cowritten by Claude Sautet (based on the novel Bandits a Marseille). Followed by a sequel in 1974.
