Ginger Snaps: Unleashed (2004, CDN) C-94m. *** D: Brett Sullivan. Starring Emily Perkins, Brendan Fletcher, Katharine Isabelle, Tatiana Maslany, Susan Adam, Janet Kidder, David McNally. Good sequel to GINGER SNAPS (2000) follows Perkins' exploits after the original movie, as she checks into a rehab clinic for young women. She tries to control her body's urge to transform into a werewolf. She befriends an odd comic-book addict (stunningly played by Maslany) and finally realizes that she is being hunted by another werewolf, who wants to mate with her. Perkins is fine again, and setting, partly an abandoned asylum, is atmospheric. The werewolf make-up is second-rate, though, like in the first movie. Maslany was an incredible 19 when this was filmed, her character must be one of the most interesting in werewolf (horror?) history. Followed by GINGER SNAPS BACK: THE BEGINNING.
