A Japanese twen travels to Australia to buy the love of his life, a 1967 Citroen DS (=déesse, meaning goddess). Upon his arrival he learns that the owner has killed himself and his wife. Their daughter is looked after by a troubled 17-year-old blind girl, who persuades him to drive her across the continent. In flashbacks we learn her story and find out that she is actually a broken soul. Artful direction and superb cinematography make this road movie drama a treat, though it tends to overlength and pretentious dialogue. Winner of several festival prizes. Cowritten by director Law.
