Just wondered if you could do a quick plug on your site for our tribute to Freddie Francis at the NFT on Monday July 23rd.

We're showing rarely seen Hammer thriller Paranoiac, introduced by screenwriter Jimmy Sangster, plus Cape Fear.

The BFI National Film Archive is screening two films in tribute to Freddie Francis:

Paranoiac (UK 1963) 18:10 NFT3
Jimmy Sangster's deliciously twisted and ghoulish plot is brought to life by Francis' subtle treatment and some great performances. Oliver Reed plays evil, drunken Simon Ashby, who goes off the rails when his elder brother returns from the dead to reclaim the family fortune. The dank interiors of the Ashby pile conceal many secrets; madness, hints of incest and a skeleton in the closet make this Hammer thriller a rare unmissable treat.
We hope to welcome Jimmy Sangster to introduce this screening.

Cape Fear (USA 1991) 20:20 NFT3
De Niro brilliantly combines sheer menace with sexual appeal in Scorsese's dazzling, self-conscious remake. The battle between good and evil in the 1961 original is given a complex, modern twist and a generous helping of graphic violence. Francis was chosen for the feel for Gothic atmosphere so evident in his Hammer films and his virtuoso visual flourishes are complemented by Elmer Bernstein's pounding score.
Freddie Francis' son Gareth will introduce this screening.
