Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Films by Hammer Studios (1955-1976)

The history of the British horror film was largely influenced by one big studio, which began producing films in the 1940s - Hammer Film Productions Limited. Hammer Films were responsible for the much-loved DRACULA, MUMMY and FRANKENSTEIN film series, produced throughout the 1950s, 60s and 70s. Of course, Hammer's output was not only restricted to horror or monster films, but these genres proved to be most successful. The filmography below lists ony feature length horror, science-fiction and fantasy films. Swashbucklers, crime dramas and short films have been omitted deliberately. Should any title have escaped attention, please feel free to send update information.
Central figures behind the success of Hammer Films were Terence Fisher (the most prolific director - and one of the best), Roy Ward Baker (joined the studio rather late but was an excellent filmmaker), Freddie Francis (originally a first-rate cinematographer) and Jimmy Sangster (a very productive writer and occasional director). Actors Peter Cushing and, most importantly, Christopher Lee were made into stars by their frequent appearances in the films.
The 70-odd horror films listed here represent about a quarter of all British horror films made in the second half of the 20th century. In the (open) list below you will find Hammer production that do not belong into the horror, sci-fi or fantasy genre.
