Filmmaker Alberto De Martino is from the second row of Italian directors. His technical competence is noticeable in all his movies and it even enabled him to direct movies with international stars such as Kirk Douglas, Curd Jürgens, John Cassavetes, Adolfo Celi or Mel Ferrer. De Martino started directing in the early 1960s, when Italian cinema was dominated by sword-and-sandal films. Later, he would also make westerns, gialli and crime thrillers. Among his best films are ROMA COME CHICAGO (1968) and the gothic chiller HORROR (1963), although film buffs should also check out his later work, such as L'ANTICRISTO (1974) or BLOOD LINK (1982).
