Moore, right after his debut as James Bond in LIVE AND LET DIE (1973), stars in this slowly paced drama about goldmining and a conspiracy to raise the gold price - even if it costs the lives of some miners. Made by the one-time Bond filmmaker Peter R. Hunt (ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE), this lacks action, style and verve but remains watchable. The final action montage is terrific (kudos to former editor Hunt). A soap opera has more plot, though. Based on Wilbur Smith's novel Goldmine. Score by Elmer Bernstein.
