Moody, atmospheric Japanese gangster movie classic about Watari, who finds himself caught between rivaling gangs and becomes a drifter to help his former boss. Action drama is notable for its stylish sets and pop-art design, but story is talky and heavy-going, when not confusing. Some consider this a masterpiece nevertheless. Can be understood as an homage to or pardoy of American gangster movies (a la film noir). English titles: TOKYO DRIFTER, THE MAN FROM TOKYO.
