Beautifully handled drama about opportunist Bridges, who loses most of his newly-gained wealth in stockmarket crash of 1929 and resorts to managing racing horses. One day he teams up with sensitive trainer Cooper and jockey Maguire to make once-injured horse Seabiscuit a champion. Excellent screenwriting introduces the story beautifully, and entire production is sublime. Good performances, immaculate period flavor, top Hollywood filmmaking. Written by director Ross, based on the book by Laura Hillenbrand. Was nominated for 7 Oscars, won none. Same story filmed before in 1949.
